1 15 – 31 May: Exhibition ‘Nero’ at the Comedy Theater in Tirana

The Dutch and Belgian Ministries of Foreign Affairs have a close working relationship in Albania; in this context, contacts between the Dutch Embassy in Tirana and the Belgian Embassy to Albania, which is located in Bulgaria, are very good. Therefore, we would like to draw everybody’s attention to the wonderful exhibition called ‘Nero’ about the Belgian author Marc Sleen, hosted by the Belgian Embassy to Albania in collaboration with the ‘Marc Sleen Foundation’ at the Comedy Theater in Tirana from 15 until 31 May 2013. The exhibition is opened daily from 10 – 13 and 17- 20 hrs.

2 The International Day against Homophobia

On the 17th of May, several events were organized in Tirana in the framework of the International Day against Homophobia (IDAHO).

3 Ambassador de la Beij attends Round Table: “Albania against Homophobia”

In the framework of the International Day against Homophobia, PINK Embassy/LGBT Pro organized the Round Table “Albania against Homophobia; LGBT in front of politics, media, youth and antidiscrimination measures” with the support of the MATRA Program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and COC Netherlands. Ambassador de la Beij attended the opening ceremony of the event and during his speech expressed to be proud to be a guest speaker at one of the key IDAHO events in Albania.

4 Embassy closed on 28th May

The embassy will be closed on Tuesday 28 May due to an embassy staff outing.

5 Ambassador Martin de la Beij visited the project site St Nicolas Church of Voskopoje, in Korce, Albania.

“An ancient community - A natural disaster - A monument restored” – is the project that responded to an emergency situation on the roof of the narthex of Saint Nicholas Church in Voskopoja during the winter 2012.

6 The Netherlands calls for greater protections for freedom of expression

‘Freedom of expression and media freedom are fundamental human rights, not only for journalists but also for society itself. They enable people to form their opinions in freedom and participate in the public debate. A democratic society cannot exist without freedom of the press.’ Foreign minister Frans Timmermans spoke these words today on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, established by the United Nations in 1993 to promote and raise awareness of press freedom around the world.

7 Ambassador de la Beij visits closing ceremony of MATRA project

Ambassador Martin de la Beij addressed the participants in the ceremony organized on the occasion of completion of MATRA project: Fostering Partnerships For Equitable Cities - Capacity building for participatory spatial planning.

8 Queens' Day 2013

Yesterday 30 April 2013 the Dutch community in Albania celebrated the investiture of the new King of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander, following the act of abdication of Queen Beatrix.

9 Ambassador de la Beij: many opportunities and potential for boosting economic and cultural ties between the Netherlands and Albania

During a visit to Albanian Daily News, Ambassador de la Beij discussed the possibilities of strengthening economic relations between the Netherlands and Albania. The Ambassador stressed the Dutch expertise in the fields of water management, agriculture and the gas sector. Albania is interested in Dutch design, architecture and music as well. Further, the Ambassador elaborated on the importance of EU integration for Albania. Attached you can find the article (English) about the visit.
