TEDxBinnenhof: Catwalk for Innovation

‘It’s not allowed to say that broccoli prevents cancer. But it’s okay to promote sugar and say that candy bars give energy. Twisted?’ This thought-provoking question comes from Rob Baan, a micro-entrepreneur in the field of agriculture. Rob was one of ten speakers at TEDxBinnenhof. In his talk he made a case for a return to common sense in our eating and farming habits.

At the TEDxBinnenhof Catwalk for Innovation ten Dutch speakers were given a chance to share their pioneering ideas on tackling global challenges such as pollution, healthcare costs and climate change. Maarten Beelen, for example, proposed a robot revolution: high-tech machines that can be used for risky eye operations. Allard van Hoeken captivated the audience with his ideas of harnessing the power of the tides to generate clean energy. And Niki Fens illuminated some of the possibilities associated with exhaled breath analysis (breathomics), a potential tool for diagnosing and monitoring disease.

The event was held in the Ridderzaal in The Hague on Monday 25 June and live-streamed to viewing parties at 39 Dutch embassies and a number of locations in the Netherlands.
